JV Wrap Up

State Tournament

JV team went 1-2 in state tournament in Columbia on July 10th and 11th and finished the season with a record of 11-12.

JCBI dropped the first game 5-4 to Rockbridge.  Danny Eveler had two hits and two RBI.   Torre Thompson and Garrett Griggs had two hits each.  Garrett Hager pitched a complete game.

In the second game, Ozark defeated JCBI 10-0.  Matt Monaghan had two hits.  Alden Hallford was the losing pitcher.

In season finale, JCBI rallied from a 9-2 deficit to defeat St. Mary’s 11-10.  Garrett Griggs had three hits two RBI.  Matt Monaghan had two hits and two RBI.  Jay Gilliam, Jared Johnson and Rob Vernon had two hits.  Kale Laughlin picked up the win in relief.

JV Splits doubleheader against Kirksville
The JV won the first game in a twin bill at Vivion against Kirksville July 7th. Jay Gilliam and Rob Vernon had three hits and three RBI apiece.  Jared Johnson had two hits and two RBI.  Garrett Griggs and Danny Eveler had two hits each. Garrett Hager was the winning pitcher in relief.

After rallying from a 10-2 deficit to tie the game 10-10, the JV team lost the second game 12-11. Garrett Griggs had three hits.  Kale Laughlin and Conner Arcobasso had two hits each.  Matt Monaghan hit a home run.  Laughlin was the losing pitcher in relief.

2009 JV Update

Eureka Tournament Results
The JV finished 7th in the sixteen team Eureka tournament.

JCBI won the first game 13-0 over Springfield Parkview.  Torre Thompson and Jay Gilliam had two hits and two RBI each and Jared Johnson had two RBI.  Kale Laughlin was the winning pitcher.

The second game was a 2-2 tie against Marquette.  The game was called after ten innings due to a two hour time limit.  Payton Logan pitched the entire game.  Matt Monaghan had two hits and two RBI.  Jared Johnson and Gilliam had two hits.

Southern Boone won the third game 5-3.  Johnson and Gilliam had two hits.  Danny Eveler was the losing pitcher.

In the first game of bracket play, JCBI lost to Ozark 11-6.  Monaghan had three hits and two RBI.  Eveler, Johnson, Gilliam and Conner Arcobasso had two hits apiece.  Garret Hager was the losing pitcher.

In the 7th place game, JCBI defeated Kickapoo 16-8.  Monaghan had three hits and two RBI. Garrett Griggs and Hager had two hits and four RBI each.  Rob Vernon had two hits and two RBI.  Arcobasso and Gilliam had two hits.  Laughlin pitched a complete game and got the win.

The JV split a double header against Southern Boone.

Southern Boone won the first game 3-2.  Conner Arcobasso had two hits and two RBI.  Alden Hallford pitched a complete game and struck out six.

In the second game, Kale Laughlin had two hits and an RBI.  Garrett Griggs and Matt Monaghan had two hits.  Conner Arcobasso had a triple and scored two runs.

Garret Hager pitched a complete game, struck out six and got the win.

JV goes 3-1 in Kirksville Tournament

In the first game, JCBI defeated Hannibal 6-1 as Payton Logan pitched a complete game.  Kale Laughlin, Torre Thompson and Rob Vernon had two hits.  Conner Arcobasso, Danny Eveler, Garrett Griggs, Matt Monaghan, and Logan also had hits.  Thompson had three RBI.

In the second game, Matt Hawkins pitched a complete game as JCBI defeated Kirksville 6-4.  Adam Dunn, Griggs and Arcobasso had hits.

JCBI dropped the next game 3-2 to the Crusader Baseball Club.  Alden Halford pitched a complete game.  Jay Gilliam, Eveler, Halford, Monaghan, and Vernon had hits.

In the fourth game, Rob Vernon’s RBI single in the top of the 7th led to a 5-4 victory over Boonville.  Vernon had two hits.   Arcobasso, Eveler, Griggs, Monaghan and Thompson also had hits.   Garrett Hager was the winning pitcher in relief of Monaghan.

Boonville sweeps JV in Doubleheader

In the first game, Boonville jumped out to an 8-0 lead and held on win 12-9.

Matt Monaghan had 3 hits, 4 RBI, and scored 3 times.  Danny Eveler had 3 hits and scored a run.  Rob Vernon had a hit and 2 RBI.  Torre Thompson had a hit and scored twice.  Kale Laughlin had a hit and Garrett Griggs scored twice.  Alden Halford took the loss.  Matt Hawkins pitched well in 4 1/3 innings of relief.

In the second game, Boonville scored twice in the bottom of the 7th inning to win 5 to 4.

Monaghan had 3 hits and 3 RBI.  Arcobasso had a hit and an RBI.  Peyton Logan, Eveler, Thompson and Griggs also had a hit.  Garrett Hager scored a run.  Kale Laughlin took the loss.  Hager started and pitched 4 2/3 innings, gave up 3 runs, and struck out 4.

JCBI JV Summer Challenge

JCBI finished 3-1 in the JV Summer Challenge.  In the first game, Jared Johnson’s base hit broke a 5-5 tie in the bottom of the 6th inning and JCBI won the game 7-5.

Nick LeCure pitched the final 1 2/3 innings and picked up the win.  Alden Halford pitched the first four inning and Matt Hawkins pitched 1 1/3 innings.

LeCure and Conner Arcobasso each had three hits and 2 RBI.  Matt Monaghan had two hits and Johnson had 2 RBI.

JCBI then dropped a 12-6 decision to West Plaines.  LeClure had two hits.  Monaghan took the loss.

In the third game, JCBI scored five runs in the top of the 7th and defeated Washington 12-7.  Kale Laughlin pitched the final 3 innings and pitched up the win.  Payton Logan started and pitched four innings.

Torre Thompson had three hits and 3 RBI.  Laughlin had 2 hits and 2 RBI.  Rob Vernon had 2 hits and Danny Eveler had 2 RBI.

In the final game, JCBI defeated Washington 15-2 in a 5 inning game.  LeCure pitched a complete game and struck out 5.

Monaghan had 2 hits and 4 RBI.  LeCure had 2 hits.  Acrobasso had 2 RBI.

2009 JV Summer Challenge

Locations:
FCNB Field (Rolla High School) & Vivion Field (Jefferson City)

Directions to Rolla High School:
(From Jeff City) – Hwy 63 south to Rolla, cross I-44 and continue south until you reach 10th St. just past Hardee’s. Turn left and 4 stop lights. School is on the right and the field is just past the school and the football field. Turn Right at the 4th light and take the first street back towards the school to park.

(From St. Louis) – Get to I-44 South towards Springfield and exit at Hwy 63 go south (left) into Rolla crossing I-44 and continue south until you reach 10th St. just past Hardee’s. Turn left and 4 stop lights. School is on the right and the field is just past the school and the football field. Turn Right at the 4th light and take the first street back towards the school to park.

Directions to Vivion Field:
(From Rolla) – Take Hwy 63 North towards Jefferson City. Hwy 63 will merge with Hwy 50 north of Westphalia near the Osage River. Stay on Hwy 50/63 until you get to downtown near the capital. After going through a series of about 4 stoplights, be sure to get in the left lane. Turn left onto Missouri Blvd. at the light by the Capital Plaza Hotel. Turn left onto Kansas at the light by a Break Time Convenience Store. After turning left on Kansas, take the next right and then turn left into the parking lot to Vivion Field. The entrance to the field is at the end of the parking lot.

(From St. Louis, coming into town on I-70): Take I-70 West from the St. Louis area to the Kingdom City exit. Exit to the right and turn left on Hwy. 54. Hwy. 54 will merge with Hwy. 63 just north of Jefferson City. Stay on 54 until you can exit to the right on Missouri Blvd. Turn left at the bottom of the exit ramp onto Missouri Blvd. Turn left onto Kansas at the light by a Break Time Convenience Store. After turning left on Kansas, take the next right and then turn left into the parking lot to Vivion Field. The entrance to the field is at the end of the parking lot.

JCBI Varsity and JV tryouts

As the 2009 high school baseball season winds down, the summer program gets underway. Tryouts for the JCBI 2009 Varsity and JV teams will be held at Lions field on Friday, May 22nd from 3:30 – 5:30 pm.
