2010 JCBI Rosters
This years tryouts were a huge success, something like 70 kids tried out for the 12u, 13u, and 14u teams. Thanks to everyone who attended and good luck.
Roster for each team will be posted here Saturday morning (8/29).
JCBI Tryouts for the upcoming 2010 season
Do you eat, sleep and breathe baseball? Do you long to be on a competitive baseball team? Are you driven to be the best you can be? If so, Jefferson City Baseball, Inc. (JCBI) may be for you. JCBI will be holding open tryouts on Saturday, August 22nd for the upcoming 2010 baseball season. All teams have openings — 12U, 13U and 14U.
JCBI operates three developmental competitive baseball teams where the Jays Baseball Coaching staff helps prepare you for high school baseball. This program is open to all baseball players whether or not you attend Jefferson City Public Schools and isn’t apart of the school system whatsoever. So grab your gear and we’ll see you on the field.
Tryouts for the 12U teams will be held at 10:00 am at Lions field.
Tryouts for the 13U and 14U team will be held at 12:00 pm at Lions field.
Whatever your childs age on April 30th determines the youngest team your child can play for. Example; if your son is 13 years of age on April 30th, he could play for either the 13U or 14U teams, but not 12U.

A few thoughts on this weekend…
I was finally able to get away from Jay Baseball and go up to watch the 12U and 14U teams play. It was quite the trip down memory lane in that I spent about six years of my life at the BC Baseball League in Columbia when JCBI was first formed. Many things have changed up at Twin Oaks, but the competitiveness of the league, and its tournaments, have not. I was able to watch the better part of two of the 12U’s games, when Stever Reller, Bob Coons and Brett Graziano were not talking my ear off, and I was pleased at how well these kids looked. They were playing AAA teams and holding their own very well, including a great comeback in the second game to tie, and eventually beat a team from Iowa. The first 6th grade team we ever had are now our sophomore class, and there are many talented, and confident, kids in that group, and I believe that is a big reason why. The 14u team, unfortunately, did not have a good game in the few innings I got to watch them, but once summer hits, I plan on working with this group when I can and helping them get ready for Freshmen baseball next year. The 8th grade year is always the hardest in that they are moved back to the 60 – 90 distances, and you can no longer overpower people at the plate. I believe that this is going to be a great Freshmen class, and we have many good players joining Jay Baseball next year.
I have not as of yet been able to watch one of the 13u games, but plan to do so in the very near future. I will try to come around as much as possible, but I will have my hands full with the Varsity team, with Coach Ash, this summer, and will do what I can.
All players, parents and coaches, keep up the good work. It’s a great day to be a Jay!!!!

Hardball Classic
What a great weekend for baseball, slightly overcast, 80’s – we could have done without the hurricane force winds blowing the infields into space, but otherwise a perfect weekend for baseball.
Both the 13u and 14u teams spent the weekend in Columbia fighting for their lives. This years Hardball Classic really attracted some talented teams from all over Missouri and beyond – hats of to BC Baseball. JCBI 13u managed 5th while 14u managed 6th in the tournament – as I said, there were some really talented teams. And I can personally vouch for the 14u guys – they fought like crazy in the consolidation bracket. One game in particular had two over time innings, followed by two Texas-tie-breaker innings. That’s two hours and forty minutes for those who weren’t there – a lot of effort shooting for a 5th (6th) place victory.
Good work guys – we’re of both teams!
Weather won this season’s first tournament
It was a tough weekend for baseball during this year’s BC Spring Classic. Both the 13u and 14u teams only managed to squeeze in one game before bad weather set in and forced the cancellation of the tournament.
JCBI 13u managed an 11-0 win over the Moberly Bombers giving them the best run differential and first place in the tournament. While JCBI 14u placed third in what was statistically a tie for second, but somebody had to be third. Might as well be us – no biggie second in a tie with the Stealers.
Update 4/8/2009: The USSSA website has been updated to reflect 14u’s 2nd place tie with the Stealers.
Baseball season gets started this weekend
Both the 13u and 14u JCBI teams get the 2009 season started this weekend in the BC Spring Classic at Twin Oaks. It’s always a cold and windy start for the teams this early and it looks like a little rain might get added to boot. I don’t know, I hate the cold, but love baseball, so I expect you’ll see me standing along the first base line bundled up and looking like the Michelin man. Just roll me back into the dugout when its time to take the field.
