2010 JCBI Rosters
This years tryouts were a huge success, something like 70 kids tried out for the 12u, 13u, and 14u teams. Thanks to everyone who attended and good luck.
Roster for each team will be posted here Saturday morning (8/29).
JCBI Tryouts for the upcoming 2010 season
Do you eat, sleep and breathe baseball? Do you long to be on a competitive baseball team? Are you driven to be the best you can be? If so, Jefferson City Baseball, Inc. (JCBI) may be for you. JCBI will be holding open tryouts on Saturday, August 22nd for the upcoming 2010 baseball season. All teams have openings — 12U, 13U and 14U.
JCBI operates three developmental competitive baseball teams where the Jays Baseball Coaching staff helps prepare you for high school baseball. This program is open to all baseball players whether or not you attend Jefferson City Public Schools and isn’t apart of the school system whatsoever. So grab your gear and we’ll see you on the field.
Tryouts for the 12U teams will be held at 10:00 am at Lions field.
Tryouts for the 13U and 14U team will be held at 12:00 pm at Lions field.
Whatever your childs age on April 30th determines the youngest team your child can play for. Example; if your son is 13 years of age on April 30th, he could play for either the 13U or 14U teams, but not 12U.
Cardinals/Cubs Game JCBI Fundraiser Winner
Congratulations to Kevin Bax who won four tickets to the May 21, 2009 Cardinals/Cubs game at Busch Stadium. Kevin and three of his closest friends/family will enjoy Lodge Box seats to see the Cardinals take on the Cubs in an always-sold-out-when-the-Cubs-are-in-town Busch Stadium.
We want to thank all who participated in helping make this fundraiser a great success!
Cowhide Classic Tournament Thriller
The JCBI 12U team took to the field this weekend under familiar unseasonably cool and wet conditions at the Cowhide Classic tournament. JCBI took two of three pool play games in a battle that invoked the Texas tie breaker rule in a 10 to 9 win against the Cedar Rapids Cougars Gold AAA team. JCBI put down the Macon Tigers in a five inning, run-rule, 8 to 0 win. The only loss was at the hand of Starpath AAA, 10 to 3.
Despite winning two of three pool games, runs allowed put JCBI 12U in the consolation bracket for Sunday’s games. The team battled against two pool play opponents, the Macon Tigers in the semi-final and the Cedar Rapids Cougars Gold in the championship. JCBI put up a battle on both sides of the plate in close matches that saw the Tigers go down 7 to 5 in six innings and a six inning, 12 to 11 victory against the Cougars. Hats off to the boys for battling for the win and to the coaches for keeping the team focused and the goal top of mind.

JCBI 14u went 1-3 last weekend in the Cowhide Classic Tournament at Twin Oaks. In pool play they lost 13-0 to the Mid-America Blue Devils, lost 13-3 to the Ballwin Gargoyles and beat the Columbia Southsiders 9-7. In bracket play JC lost to the Southsiders 10-5.
Against the Gargoyles Johnson was the starter and took the loss with Limbach pitching relief. Stegeman was 2-2 with an RBI, Limbach had a double and an RBI and Erick Standlee had an RBI.
In the 9-7 win over the Southsiders on Saturday Stegeman was the starter and picked up the win with Beard getting the save. Carroll led the hitting with a 3 run home run and 4 RBI, Atkinson had 2 RBI, with Beard, Brauner and Standlee each picking up 1 RBI.
In the bracket play 10-5 loss to the Southsiders Carroll was the starting pitcher and Brauner got the loss. Carroll popped a solo home run, Limbach had a double and 1 RBI, and Beard, Kneeskern and Stegeman each had 1 RBI.
A few thoughts on this weekend…
I was finally able to get away from Jay Baseball and go up to watch the 12U and 14U teams play. It was quite the trip down memory lane in that I spent about six years of my life at the BC Baseball League in Columbia when JCBI was first formed. Many things have changed up at Twin Oaks, but the competitiveness of the league, and its tournaments, have not. I was able to watch the better part of two of the 12U’s games, when Stever Reller, Bob Coons and Brett Graziano were not talking my ear off, and I was pleased at how well these kids looked. They were playing AAA teams and holding their own very well, including a great comeback in the second game to tie, and eventually beat a team from Iowa. The first 6th grade team we ever had are now our sophomore class, and there are many talented, and confident, kids in that group, and I believe that is a big reason why. The 14u team, unfortunately, did not have a good game in the few innings I got to watch them, but once summer hits, I plan on working with this group when I can and helping them get ready for Freshmen baseball next year. The 8th grade year is always the hardest in that they are moved back to the 60 – 90 distances, and you can no longer overpower people at the plate. I believe that this is going to be a great Freshmen class, and we have many good players joining Jay Baseball next year.
I have not as of yet been able to watch one of the 13u games, but plan to do so in the very near future. I will try to come around as much as possible, but I will have my hands full with the Varsity team, with Coach Ash, this summer, and will do what I can.
All players, parents and coaches, keep up the good work. It’s a great day to be a Jay!!!!
Coach Simmons
JCBI 12U take two in league play
JCBI 12U put two in the win column in perfect baseball weather Wednesday evening in matches with Shockwave and the Mid Missouri Sluggers. The first game with Shockwave was over in four innings with a run-rule 9 to 1 victory. The matchup with the Mid Missouri Sluggers ended with a 6 to 5 win in five innings and no time left. I know the boys enjoyed playing in their first games of the season in sunny, clear blue skys and mild temperatures.
Next week, it’s back to Taos with a double header against Mexico Thunder at 6:00 pm on field #1 and the Hammers on field #1 at 8:00 pm. See you there!
2009 Frozen Rope Tournament Champions

2009 Frozen Rope Turnament 12U Champions
Our cold wet spring training and early league play paid off in spades this past weekend when the JCBI 12U team took first place in the 2009 Frozen Rope Tournament played at Twin Oaks Sports Complex in Columbia, Missouri. The team won five of six games played over the four day tournament, the final three consecutive wins on a very soggy Sunday. The first game on Sunday against the Mid Missouri Daggers, the same team we played on Saturday, was a 14 to 4 victory. The semi-final game against the number one seed, Northeast Bullets, was a hard fought, rain delayed after three inning, 3 to 2 win. The championship game, against the Tipton Cardinals, saw JCBI 12U jump off to a first innning 3 to 1 lead with the final score of 10 to 2.
As you can tell from the picture, every one of these boys made significant contributions to the outcome of the tournament victory. Congratulations, JCBI 12U!
